We are delighted to announce that Diabetes.co.uk have been shortlisted for ‘Best use of social media to deliver a healthcare campaign’ at the 2015 EHI Awards.
E-Health Insider Awards is an awards programme devoted to highlighting and rewarding the hard working IT staff in the UK with bright ideas. It is the UK’s only dedicated healthcare IT award scheme.
In 2014, Diabetes.co.uk launched #BloodSugarSelfies to highlight World Diabetes Day, unite the global diabetes community and raise awareness and charity funds. Members of Diabetes.co.uk forum shared selfies, including singer Chaka Khan and even Angel, the Lhasa Apso dog from Wigan! Reaching more than 4 million people worldwide, the #BloodSugarSelfies raised a total of £4,461 for JDRF diabetes charity.
The ultimate benefit of any health care campaign is saving lives, which is exactly what #BloodSugarSelfies done! One young patient downloaded a selfie, not realizing her blood sugar levels were perilously high. She soon noticed this once checking her selfie and took her insulin avoiding a hyper. The Diabetes.co.uk campaign was extremely successful by not only saving a life, but also raising confidence of those living with diabetes worldwide. A lady whose daughter lives with diabetes said, “My daughter just said to me, ‘Looking at everyone showing their reading gives me so much more confidence.’ So thank you.”
Social media has grown dramatically over the years and is constantly developing. Very proud of the success they have achieved, Diabetes.co.uk are excited to watch the forum grow. The team are looking forward to hopefully making it through to the final stages and have been invited to meet the judging panel in Leicester on 17 July.
The 2015 EHI Awards ceremony will be held in London on Thursday 01 October.
